Jay Mehrhoff, Ed.D., director of athletics and assistant professor of physical education at East Central College, has been involved with intercollegiate athletics in different roles for over 15 years. First, he served in the capacity as head women's club soccer coach at the University of Missouri before the team was elevated to NCAA Division I status in 1995. The remaining time has been spent at East Central College as a head soccer coach (1997-2000), assistant professor (2000-present) and director of athletics (2003-present). During his seven year tenure as athletics director at East Central College, a modest athletics department comprising of only three teams, the college has won eight NJCAA Region XVI Titles and three Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Championships. Men's soccer finished 3rd in NJCAA Div. 1 in 2003 and women's volleyball made consecutive trips to the NJCAA Div. II Nationals in 2008 and 2009. While at the helm as athletics director, East Central College has enjoyed having seven NJCAA All-Americans and six NJCAA Academic All-Americans. Mehrhoff has also served as president of the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference for the past five years. He is currently an Executive Committee member for the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). Mehrhoff completed his undergraduate studies with a bachelor's degree in physical education at the University of Missouri St. Louis, where he also played for the men's soccer team and was named NASPE Student of the Year in the Physical Education Department. Further studies included a Master's in Sport Management at the University of Missouri and a Doctorate of Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy in Mobile, Alabama. He worked internships for the marketing department at the University of Missouri and the St. Louis Sports Commission. Mehrhoff resides in suburban St. Louis with his wife Kate and two children, Matthew and Leah. |
