Now in its sixth year, the nominations for the MTOYA spanned across from FBS, FCS, Division I-AAA, and Division II. The two other finalists for the 2017 MTOYA were the University of Maryland and the University of Oregon.

The selection committee was made up of NACMA Past Presidents, as well as two NACDA Past Presidents.

Award recipients received the prestigious NACMA MTOYA Trophy to keep in their offices and were recognized at the NACMA Closing Ceremonies on Wednesday, June 14 at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida.
