NACMA Names `$1000 Idea' Award Winner

June 4, 2012

CLEVELAND – The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) announced Nicole Imbrogno, assistant director of marketing and promotions at Duquesne University, as its 2012 ‘$1000 Idea’ Award Winner. Imbrogno will be awarded a $1,000 stipend to attend the 2012 NACMA Convention in Dallas later this month.

Each year, Basic Training attendees are encouraged to submit a best practice that they implemented on their campus from ideas generated during Convention.  All submissions are then voted on and the winner receives a $1000 stipend which may be used to offset any registration or travel costs associated with attending.  Imbrogno’s idea came out on top.

Imbrogno’s idea was a ‘Tipoff Tailgate’, an effort to create an annual event for students to look forward to as the spring semester and conference play for the Dukes men’s basketball program begin. The event was intended to serve as a “welcome back” event to engage the campus community and bridge the current gap between athletics and the rest of the university.  The ultimate goal is that the ‘Tipoff Tailgate’ will continue to grow into a tradition that fans and students look forward to year after year.

Student groups led the charge by coordinating food and activities during the tailgate, creating a fun atmosphere. The athletics department provided prizes (an iPad2 and $500 in book money, etc.) as giveaways throughout the game. The athletics department also teamed up with Moe’s Southwest Grill for a burrito eating contest during halftime, which was extremely interactive and set the tone for the rest of the Dukes men’s basketball games.

Imbrogno will present the idea during this year’s Basic Training, set to be held on Monday, June 25 in conjunction with the NACMA Convention at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
