Question:
We are examining our intern pay and have a few basic questions:

How much do you pay per month or by the hour?
Do your interns receive benefits?
Do you pay commission for ticket sales?

Thanks in advance for your responses.
- Craig Pintens, Marquette

While at St. John's in NY, we usually did not pay interns, in some cases we paid undergraduate and graduate level students approx. $7.60/hour without benefits. We wanted to implement a commission pay structure but it was not approved by the University - the idea was to pay them $10-15 per season ticket package ($400+) that they sold to new customers. We had students willing to participate but again, it was no approved by the University.

Ohio State pays around $900 per month. They do not receive benefits except the two grad students we have get their tuition paid for.

We do not pay our interns. Our interns receive credit for their internship. We feel that it is our responsibility, as an institution, to provide the best educational experience possible. We interview candidates, and those we bring on board we are confident that their experience is extremely valuable.

We are examining our intern pay and have a few basic questions:

1. How much do you pay per month or by the hour? ODU has (1) Intern. We pay that person $10,000 for entire year. We also have two "GA's" who we pay $7,500 per year. The term "year" refers to entire academic year from Sept 1 - May.

2. Do your interns receive benefits?
NO Benefits
3. Do you pay commission for ticket sales?
Our student workers do not currently have sales responsibilities.
Please find responses to your questions listed above in the body of your email. If I can provide further assistance let me know.

We do not pay our interns. There is such a great interest in working for the athletics department that we've not needed to pay.

Craig,

We have student interns who work for free to get the experience. We also have a graduate assistant who is more like a paid intern, but does not receive any benefits. The position is actually a 10-month contract. Our graduate assistant does not work with the ticket office so there is no chance for the position to make a commission.

I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any more specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Craig: I am an intern at UAB. We get paid $900 monthly with no benefits. I know some universities do offer benefits for their interns and some have commission sales. I would definitely recommend one or the other. Its hard to move from a different state and make it on a minimal salary. I am married so we live on mostly what my wife makes. Hopefully hearing it from an intern helps. Please email or call me if you have any more questions. Thanks.
- Shayne Forsyth, UAB Athletics

Craig,

We don't pay interns, no benefits and no commission...hope that helps. We jsut go off the fact that they will be getting great experience and such.

Craig:

Our interns are unpaid (unfortunately for them); some do it for credit and some do it just to gain experience. We do pay them for working the football games ($25 stipend per game plus a food coupon), and if we have outside events that we need staff at (tabling at a festival/fair/open house), we usually pay them a small stipend as well.

We are examining our intern pay and have a few basic questions:
1. How much do you pay per month or by the hour? stipend per month -- $700
2. Do your interns receive benefits? No
3. Do you pay commission for ticket sales? Yes, but only on business partner packages

At Oklahoma State we pay $1,000 a month with no benefits and no commission on ticket sales. That might be a neat idea for motivation though. We did pay monthly but now must pay hourly and technically they cannot work over 40 hours a weeks, although we all know interns work many more.

Craig-
Has the snow melted yet? I was in Milwaukee last weekend during the big snow fall....
Not sure if you have received any info back from Kansas State but here you go.
1. How much do you pay per month or by the hour?
$7 an hour, for events only
2. Do your interns receive benefits?
No
3. Do you pay commission for ticket sales?
No

Let me know if we can help with anything else.
- Chad Kimmel, Kansas State

HI Craig, We pay our interns $200/month. They work 5 office hours per week, plus about one event per week (approx. 3 hours). We only have four interns (could definitely use more help, as I'm sure you could too!) They do not receive additional benefits, and this past year we did not have them working on ticket sales - but I'd like to consider that for next season. I'll be interested to see your results.
