Nov. 9, 2005 Bucknell University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Affairs within the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Bucknell is a private liberal arts university of 3,400 students that is a member of the NCAA Division I (I-AA Football) and the Patriot League for 22 of 27 varsity sports. Position Description: 12-month, benefits-eligible position Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance & Student Affairs will serve as the Department's Chief Compliance Officer and the primary coordinator of student-affairs. The position reports directly to the Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator, with oversight by Director of Athletics and Recreation and is a member of the Athletics Department's administrative staff. The Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance & Student Affairs will keep the Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator and the Director of Athletics and Recreation aware of progress and issues related to maintaining institutional compliance with NCAA, ECAC, Patriot League and University rules, as well as promptly reporting any violations of those rules. The Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance & Student Affairs will assist the department in taking steps to insure that the daily operation of the athletics department is carried out within the spirit and the letter of NCAA, Patriot League and University rules; that the staff and student-athletes of the department are knowledgeable of, and held accountable for, these rules; and, that any violations of the rules are reported appropriately. In addition, the position will act as the Department's primary liaison with the Compliance Committee. The position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Department's compliance and rules education program, coordinating and monitoring the certification of student-athletes' eligibility and financial aid, and directing various student-athlete programs (community outreach, code of conduct, etc.). In addition, the position will coordinate the Department's student affairs area and act as the liaison with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and other University offices as needed (e.g., Dean of Students Office, Registrar, Financial Aid). Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, with a master's or law degree preferred.
Other qualifications include: 2. Familiarity with policy issues concerning the administration of Division I intercollegiate athletics and higher education. 3. Ability to implement and monitor administrative systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. 4. Experience with computer applications (PC-Compatible, Banner environment) and database management. With hands-on experience in the development, implementation and management of office information systems. Experience with the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse procedures and processes are required. Knowledge of NCAA compliance software and interpretations database is preferred. 5. Ability to direct, manage and perform detailed work with accuracy under time pressures. 6.
