The internship is a one to two-year, full-time position with a salary of $2,088/month with full benefits. Under the general supervision of the Purchasing & Accounts Payable Manager, the intern is responsible in assisting with the department's financial transactions and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Business & Finance Office.

  • Assist with the daily operations of the Business & Finance office, including preparing purchase orders, payments, check requests; research and resolve problem invoices; interact with individuals within the department, at the University, and outside vendors.

  • Assist in the training and supervision of 7-8 part-time student employees.

  • Assist with special projects on an as-needed basis for the Purchasing & Accounts Payable Manager and Director of Business & Finance.

    Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as skills in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.

  • Ability to work under time constraints and with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions and distractions.

  • Ability to analyze invoices and purchase requests with corresponding documentation to determine if the transactions are within established policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of University accounting practices and procedures, University purchasing policies and procedures, and the University Financial System.

  • Knowledge of University, Pac-10 and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive or confidential information.

  • Display organizational skills as well as the ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a manner accurately reflecting the relative importance of job responsibilities without constant supervision.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact professionally, tactfully, and diplomatically with diverse coaches, students, staff, athletes, visitors and vendors in person and on the telephone.

  • Demonstrate word processing and computer skills to complete assignments with speed and accuracy.

  • Ability to operate a computer with working knowledge of various computer software systems including Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
