The internship is a one to two-year, full-time position with a salary of $2,088/month with full benefits. Under the general supervision of the Purchasing & Accounts Payable Manager, the intern is responsible in assisting with the department's financial transactions and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Business & Finance Office.
Assist with the daily operations of the Business & Finance office, including preparing purchase orders, payments, check requests; research and resolve problem invoices; interact with individuals within the department, at the University, and outside vendors.
Assist in the training and supervision of 7-8 part-time student employees.
Assist with special projects on an as-needed basis for the Purchasing & Accounts Payable Manager and Director of Business & Finance.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as skills in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.
Ability to work under time constraints and with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions and distractions.
Ability to analyze invoices and purchase requests with corresponding documentation to determine if the transactions are within established policies and procedures.
Knowledge of University accounting practices and procedures, University purchasing policies and procedures, and the University Financial System.
Knowledge of University, Pac-10 and NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
Display organizational skills as well as the ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a manner accurately reflecting the relative importance of job responsibilities without constant supervision.
Interpersonal skills to interact professionally, tactfully, and diplomatically with diverse coaches, students, staff, athletes, visitors and vendors in person and on the telephone.
Demonstrate word processing and computer skills to complete assignments with speed and accuracy.
Ability to operate a computer with working knowledge of various computer software systems including Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
