UAB Internships

UAB Student-Athlete Support Services office is currently accepting applications for the internship/assistant positions available for the 2010-2011 year. While there is some flexibility in start time, all assistants are desired to be in place by Monday, August 2, 2010. The positions are typically 10-month positions ending May 31, 2011. Individuals selected for the positions will be assisting the student-athlete support services staff with the day-to-day operations of the department. This includes serving as an academic mentor and class checker; assistance with the supervision of study hall; assistance with the tutoring, class checking and academic mentoring programs for student-athletes; assistance with the CHAMPS/Lifeskills, awards and book programs; other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director of Student Services, Learning Specialist and advising staff. A Bachelor's degree; strong organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Office); ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines; ability to work evenings, Sundays and occasional weekends are required. Master's degree and Previous experience in collegiate athletics and/or academic counseling and advising; interests in pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics (specifically student-athlete support services) are preferred. The positions include a weekly educational component that exposes individuals to various aspects of advising student-athletes and preparing for fulltime employment.
