Mississippi State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Marketing and Promotions graduate assistant for the 2010 Fall semester. Applicants are eligible for renewal at the end of each semester upon successful performance evaluation. Admission to a Mississippi State University graduate program is required. The weekly commitment includes office hours as needed and staffing at numerous sporting events, most of which take place on weekends, in the evenings, or on holidays.

The athletic department recognizes that the athletic marketing graduate assistants play a key role in the success of the MSU game day experience for our fans. Therefore it is critical that prospective candidates carefully consider the time commitment necessary to successfully participate in this program.

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Athletic Marketing

BASIC FUNCTION: Primary responsibilities of this position include executing in-game promotions for football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and softball. Supervise approximately 6-10 sports marketing interns.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with game-day and event management of selected sports
  • Creation and implementation of select marketing and promotional plans
  • Develop, execute and organize in-game promotions
  • Assist with ad design and submission
  • Produce game script and public address announcements
  • Distribute promotional materials to MSU campus and Starkville community
  • Manage and supervise a group of sports marketing interns
  • Assist with special events and hospitality functions
  • Collaborate with Spirit Squads and MSU Pep Band at home athletic contests

QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications include bachelor's degree in athletic administration, marketing or related field. Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary. Previous knowledge and experience in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign as well as web-based applications are preferred. Must have a great work ethic, be detailed oriented, manage multiple tasks and have the ability to meet deadlines. Also required is a willingness to work nights and weekends.

 

 

COMPENSATION: The position includes 71% tuition waiver, $1,000 monthly stipend and books.
