Belmont University Graduate Assistant (2) - Athletic Media Relations Belmont University is seeking applicants for two (2) graduate assistantships in its Athletic Media Relations office. Start date is flexible, with an earliest possible date of August 1, 2010. Positions are two-year appointments, and the chosen candidates will be extended the opportunity to pursue a Master's degree in a desired field of study offered by Belmont. Duties and responsibilities: Serve as a primary media relations contact for assigned sports, likely to be as follows:
Act as an intermediary between the athletic program and various media outlets; assist with the planning and coverage of all BU sports; update the department web site; write and disseminate press releases; media guide layout design and content management; statistical upkeep; assist staff with gameday operations; and other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field with at least one year of experience in the athletic media relations field. Must have proven written and oral communications skills, with the ability to produce press releases, game notes, media guides and other gameday materials. Working knowledge of QuarkXPress and/or Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and StatCrew statistical software required. Experience with Netitor or comparable online content management system a plus. Previous intercollegiate athletic SID experience preferred. Involves periodic travel and night/weekend hours. Compensation: Tuition waiver (six credit hours per semester; excludes summer session), institutional fees and a $3,000 annual stipend (based on August-May schedule).
