Coker College invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Athletics. The Director reports to the President of the College and has overall responsibility for the intercollegiate athletics program. He or she is expected to manage with integrity, respecting the College's mission and its commitment to excellence. The Director is responsible for the planning, management, administration and direction of the Coker College Department of Athletics and its programs within the academic mission of the College. Coker participates in NCAA Division II, is a member of the Conference Carolinas, and fields teams in men's soccer, basketball, golf, baseball, cross country, and tennis, and in women's cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, and golf. The College seeks a professional athletics administrator who will provide a vision for and leadership to the intercollegiate athletics program. This individual is committed to developing a varsity athletics program based on the NCAA Division II Model Program which encourages the integration of academic excellence, personal integrity and athletic achievement. Coker's mission is to be a student-centered, comprehensive degree granting college. It is dedicated to providing every student enrolled in the Day and Evening and Extended Studies Programs an academic curriculum based upon a uniformly excellent liberal arts core that enhances the structured development of key personal skills. The intercollegiate athletics mission states that Coker College believes that intercollegiate athletics are an integral part of a liberal arts education and should contribute to the complete development of all students. The primary purpose of the athletics program is to foster excellence of character, integrity, responsibility, sportsmanship, self-esteem, self-discipline, and physical development among its participants. An additional purpose is to enhance the quality of campus life by acting as a cohesive force in the College community. The Director of Athletics is responsible for: athletic department planning; program development and assessment; budget and resource management including facilities; supervision of compliance with NCAA and Conference Carolinas rules and regulations; coaching and support staff appointments; staff professional development; outreach to the local and regional community; fundraising in collaboration with the College's advancement office; and the development of positive relationships with prospective students and graduates. The College seeks a leader of the intercollegiate athletics program who will work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff across the College to support teamwork, set high standards, and support the academic and personal development of its students. The Director of Athletics will work with the President and other senior administrators to support the overall goals and objectives of the College. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of athletics administration at the collegiate level. Qualifications include: Master's Degree in a discipline related to the position; Demonstrated record of successful athletic administrative experience or equivalent higher education managerial experience; Affiliation and active engagement with professional organizations appropriate to the position with proven leadership responsibilities; Demonstrated ability for promoting and marketing the intercollegiate athletics program within the College and the community; Commitment to excellence in academics and athletics; Experience with strategic planning; Commitment to shared governance and collaboration; Experience with facilities management and capital project development; Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to equal opportunity, gender equity, and diversity; and, Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Coker College is a private, residential, liberal arts college enrolling approximately 1,156 students-61% female, 39% male. Coker places an emphasis on excellence in the liberal and creative artsand sciences by offering 31 majors and 22 minors. The College also offers individual majors and double majors; self-designed degree programs; specializations; and pre-professional programs. The College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the baccalaureate degree. Coker is also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the South Carolina Board of Education. Coker College's Bachelor of Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The College is located in the City of Hartsville, SC.
