Director of Athletics

The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland, a comprehensive college within the State University of New York System, invites applications and is soliciting nominations for a Director of Athletics. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director of Athletics provides vision, leadership and oversight for SUNY Cortland's Division III intercollegiate athletics program. Major responsibilities include providing administrative direction and oversight for 25 intercollegiate athletics programs; developing a strategic plan and vision; managing financial operations including a $3 million annual operating budget; supporting and participating in fund-raising activities; executing a marketing plan to increase athletic program exposure and ticket sales revenue; supervising 19 head coaches and office administrators and support staff; overseeing department-wide compliance with all NCAA policies and procedures; supporting Title IX by ensuring equality in men's and women's athletics; and serving as the primary spokesperson for the athletics program.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree; college-level coaching and athletic administration experience; budget management experience; strong organizational skills; supervisory experience; excellent communications skills; effective interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience in fostering community and donor relations; sensitivity to gender equity and diversity issues; NCAA compliance experience; and, demonstrated commitment to student athletes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate; head coaching and fund-raising experience

The College is known for its superb programs in teacher education, physical education, kinesiology, sport management and a number of flagship liberal arts programs in the natural and social sciences as well as the arts and humanities. SUNY Cortland is nationally known for its 25 sport athletic programs within Division III. For the fourteenth consecutive year, the athletic program at SUNY Cortland finished in the top twenty Division III Director's Cup standings in the United States, one of only six institutions in Division III to achieve this accomplishment.
