NACDA and CDW•G Announce Partnership to Present New Award

Dec. 1, 2016

CLEVELAND – The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced that it has partnered with CDW•G, a leading multi-brand technology solutions provider to business, government, education and healthcare organizations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, to create the Best Game Day Technology Experience Award, honoring athletics directors and their universities for their innovative marketing practices.

The award will be presented in the summer of 2017 and will recognize NCAA Division I institutions that are NACDA members. Nominations will be accepted through April 28, and the top three finalists will be selected and announced in conjunction with the 2017 NACDA & Affiliates Convention in Orlando, Florida.

The winning member institution will be awarded $25,000 worth of Microsoft and Cisco products and services sold by CDW•G. A five-person committee consisting of athletics directors across the country and representatives from CDW and NACDA will help choose this year’s first award winner, including:

Ross Bjork, Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics, University of Mississippi
Pat Chun, Vice President and Director of Athletics, Florida Atlantic University
Dan Fagan, CDW•G, Practice Manager, Sports and Entertainment
Jean Lenti Ponsetto, Athletics Director, DePaul University
Bob Vecchione, Executive Director, NACDA

“A great venue experience has the power to draw fans in – and keep them coming back to pack the house for every game,” said Aletha Noonan, vice president of higher education, CDW•G. “That’s why we are excited to introduce the Best Game Day Technology Experience Award to highlight the ways technology is playing a crucial role in the fan experience. We look forward to hearing from athletics directors and their universities, who are using technology to redefine fandom.”

“It is remarkable to look around and see the technological advances our members have made on campus as it relates to the game day experience,” stated Vecchione. “This partnership with CDW•G will allow us to highlight the impressive work that is being done as athletics departments promote their programs and engage their fans.”

Nominations for the award must be submitted directly to the NACDA office by a staff member of the athletics department of the member institution. The nomination should consist of up to a 500-word description of the institution’s best game day technology experience in an athletics contest during the 2016-17 school year, including objectives, outcomes and budget. Supporting collateral including videos, photos and social media can also be submitted.
