NACDA & Affiliates Enjoy Record Success During 2017 Convention Week|
June 22, 2017
CLEVELAND — The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and its Affiliate Associations recently completed the 52nd Annual Convention Week at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida, and enjoyed record-breaking success across multiple fronts.
It was the fifth time in the last seven years that the Convention was hosted at that property – the largest Marriott in the world – and when it was time to launch the registration process, rooms sold out in just seven minutes.
Nearly 6,800 athletics administrators, sponsors and exhibitors were part of the Convention in some capacity, and a total of 50 groups met over the span of June 8-15.
“It is inspiring and humbling to witness the growth and development of our Annual Convention, especially over the past several years,” said NACDA Executive Director, Bob Vecchione. “The increase in attendance and willingness to participate speaks volumes regarding the networking and professional development opportunity this event provides. I would like to thank the NACDA Officers and Executive Committee, as well as the leadership from all of the Affiliate Associations, for their tireless efforts in planning and executing another first-rate event – one that has proven it will continue to get better for many years to come.”
The programming was highlighted by featured speakers Dr. Chris Howard, President at Robert Morris University, and John Skipper, President of ESPN and Co-Chairman of Disney Media Networks. In addition, ESPN’s Holly Rowe was presented with the Michael J. Cleary Merit of Honor Award, the first time the award had been given since 2013.
The Exhibit Hall held on June 12-13, which has grown to be the largest tradeshow in collegiate athletics, featured over 200 companies covering all areas of the industry marketplace.
During the Convention Week, NACDA and its Affiliate Associations also honored the 28 Under Armour Athletics Directors of the Year, the 2016-17 Learfield Directors’ Cup winners, as well as the 2017 James J. Corbett Award recipient, NACDA Secretary Don Tencher of Rhode Island College.
The 2018 Convention is scheduled for June 24-July 2 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center near Washington, D.C.
The next event on NACDA’s calendar is the inaugural Fall Forum, to be held November 12-14 in Boston, Massachusetts. Registration for the event will open later this summer, and it is open to all NACDA & Affiliate members. For the most up-to-date information regarding all of NACDA’s events, visit nacda.com.
