David Stair has served as the Evangel University athletics director since 1982 and has been employed at Evangel since 1976. Stair coached the women's basketball team at Evangel for five seasons (1979-84) and was the head mentor for the women's tennis team for six years (1977-82).

Respected as one of the top athletics administrators in the nation, Stair has been honored with several awards. Most recently, Stair was inducted in the NAIA Hall of Fame as well as the Springfield Hall of Fame. He was also named the 2003-04 NAIA Central Region National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Athletics Director of the Year. In addition, Stair received Evangel's 2004 E.M. and Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teacher, Scholarship and Service.

In 2001, he was honored as the NAIA Region V Administrator of the Year and in 1995 Stair was selected as the 1994-95 NAIA-ADA Male Athletics Administrator of the Year. In addition, at the end of the 1987-88 school year, Stair was honored with NAIA District 16 Administrator of the year honors.

In 1999 Stair was elected as one of eight College Division members of the NACDA Executive Committee. Stair is a representative for District 5 of the College Division. Stair also continues to serve as the NAIA representative on the NACDA Director's Cup Committee.

The driving force behind Evangel athletics, Stair's ability to lead and organize has led to many accomplishments. Evangel "firsts" for Stair include a charity basketball tournament at the college (1990), the Athletics Director's Academic Top Ten award (1987), summer sports camps at Evangel (1986), and the Evangel Athletics Hall of Fame (1984). He was also instrumental in the redesigning of the Evangel basketball arena.

Stair earned his bachelor's degree from State University College in Cortland, N.Y., in 1973, his master's degree in 1974 from the same university and his doctorate from the University of Arkansas in 1981.
