Dennis Young is in his third year as the Associate Director of Athletics for Major Gifts at East Carolina University. Prior to becoming an Associate Director, Young served as the Executive Director for the East Carolina Educational Foundation (Pirate Club) for 15 years. Young's primary duties include the planning and execution of all major fundraising efforts for the athletic department. He has currently raised over $45 million in endowments and capital projects for East Carolina. During Young's time as an Executive Director of the Pirate Club, he led the fundraising efforts for $35 million in capital gifts to fund the expansion of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, built the Murphy Center and constructed the state-of-the-art Clark-LeClair Baseball Stadium. During his 15 years as executive director, the Pirate Club annual fund campaigns experienced a significant rise from $500,000 to nearly $4 million for athletics scholarships. Prior to working for East Carolina, Young worked in the corporate world. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Young returned to Greenville after earning his undergraduate degree in accounting from ECU in 1969. During his college career, Young played football for the late Clarence Stasavich, lettering in 1966 and 1967. Young and his wife, Ellen, are the parents of two children, Chip, of Colorado Springs, CO., and Allison Baise, of Greensboro, N.C. He is currently the Third Vice President/Treasurer of the National Association of Athletics Development Directors (NAADD). |
