Melody Reifel Werner Position: Associate Athletics Director Compliance Institution: Eastern Michigan University

Melody Reifel Werner, associate director/compliance & special projects, is in her 13th year as a member of the Eastern Michigan staff. In addition to her responsibilities for compliance, she provides oversight for academic support, human resources, strategic planning, and special projects. She is also the sport administrator for rowing, gymnastics and tennis. Prior to her current position, she served as associate athletics director/senior woman administrator, assistant athletics director for compliance, and coordinator of athletics rules compliance.

Reifel Werner is an adjunct professor at Concordia University where she teaches graduate-level courses in Educational Leadership.

Reifel is a member of the NCAA Research Committee and serves as the Chair of the education subcommittee of the National Association of Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA).

Reifel Werner earned her bachelor's and master's degree with high honors at Eastern Michigan University. She completed her doctorate degree in educational leadership in 2006. Her recently published book "Protecting University Integrity: Managing Risks in Intercollegiate Athletics" was a result of her dissertation study about NCAA compliance.

Prior to joining Eastern Michigan University, she worked as a training consultant for a national training organization and as an accounts manager for GTE.

Reifel Werner is married to Thomas Werner and has two adult sons: Thomas Joseph, 24 and Anthony John, 23.
