MOAA Member Monday - Taurian Houston

March 5, 2018

Taurian Houston - Colgate University

Why did you join MOAA?
I saw it as an opportunity to join an organization that fostered a culture of collaboration and mentorship with people who looked like me.

Name something about you most people don't know.
I have one biological brother, seven step-brothers and sisters and 14 foster brothers and sisters.

If you hadn’t chosen a profession in athletics, what would your profession be?
Something involving law/public policy. Servant leadership has always been a part of my life.

What is one of the greatest aspects of being involved in athletics?
Getting the opportunity to connect with people from all different walks of live. From the student-athletes we serve, the coaches/administrators we work with and the community that supports us, I always look forward to building meaningful relationships with them all.

What is the theme song playing in your head when you have to get something tough done?
"So Fresh and So Clean" by Outkast. Gets me through every time.

If you could spend one day with a sports figure, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?
I would really want the opportunity to spend some time with Coach Eddie Robinson. You hear how players he coached refer to the presence he had and I just want that opportunity to experience it myself.

What is your favorite movie? Why?
I am actually going to cheat and say the whole Rocky series, Creed included. You see the characters have success and challenges throughout their lives, allowing you to identify with them more.

What is the last thing someone has come back and thanked you for professionally?
A few students and staff members thanked me for coordinating a screening for "Black Panther" at our local movie theater.

Best thing your mentor told you?
Never forget how you got to where you are now and who helped you along the way.

Fill in the blank: I wished I would have_______.
Studied abroad when I was in college. Luckily, I have been able to travel more now but should have done it sooner.
