David Wilson joined Purdue University in 2000 and currently serves as the assistant director of branding and advertising and trademark licensing director. Wilson oversees Purdue's licensing program, managing 300 licensees, retail marketing initiatives, campus merchandising programs, statewide outreach programs, focus groups, etc. He has been innovative in developing new programs such as a brand management strategy, which has resulted in a 10% increase in royalties each fiscal year since its inception.
By creating beneficial relationships for licensees and retailers, Wilson has helped grow business while maintaining the integrity and value of the Purdue University Brand. During his time at Purdue, the licensing program has gone from generating $500,000 per year in royalty revenue to averaging close to a million dollars a year since 2006. Through the proper management of resources, and integrated marketing, he has grown and stabilizd revenues, making Purdue's licensing program less reliant upon wins and losses.
Prior to his time at Purdue, Wilson served as the athletic marketing & licensing director at the University of North Dakota. He also worked as an athletic development assistant at the Air Force Academy.
Wilson, a Michigan native, graduated from Central Michigan University with a master's degree in sport administration and a bachelor's degree in communications.
