Eric Schoh is entering his third year as director of athletics at Wayne State College (WSC). A native of LaCrescent (Minn.), Schoh inherited a department that was coming off of a year with debt in both operations and scholarships. Since then, Schoh has guided a department that has operated with a balanced scholarship budget, made significant changes in operations, and has solid projections for their future financial position. During the 2005-06 academic year, Schoh guided a department that produced one all-American, five conference championships and 21 individual conference championships. Wayne State also produced 69 first-team all-conference performers, one academic all-american and 15 academic all-district honorees. All of these accomplishments propelled the Wildcats to a second place finish in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) all-sports trophy, which is the best finish in WSC's history. Schoh has been committed to improving WSC's athletics facilities. One of these facilities is the Ralph Barclay Wildcat Sports Medicine Center. In the works is a three million dollar renovation of the football stadium and Rice Auditorium for a new weight room, locker rooms, expanded classrooms, and office space. In addition, the Pete Chapman baseball/softball complex has been seeing renovations, specifically, the addition of a locker room to the softball team's dugout. Schoh has been named to the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Associate Board of Directors, a baseball liaison for the NSIC, and a Men's Basketball North Central Regional selection committee member. He also has served on the Division II regional soccer and women's basketball regional committees. Prior to his arrival at WSC, Schoh was the associate athletics director for development at California State Bakersfield (CSUB). At CSUB, Schoh was responsible for the management and leadership of the department's fund raising (reaching million dollar goals both years). Schoh, was also an associate athletics director at South Dakota (USD), where he had the opportunity to oversee fund raising, compliance, operations, special events, game management, sport information, tickets, and the business office. His proudest accomplishment was the implementation of the Pat O'Brien Dinner Auction, which was an annual event that rose over $400,000 in his four years at USD. Prior to USD he worked at Montana State Billings as the coordinator of marketing and media relations and assistant athletics dDirector with his main focus on fund raising. Schoh was the voice of the MSUBillings men's basketball team for two seasons. Schoh received a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications from Iowa State in 1991. He earned a master's degree in sports administration from Iowa State in 1995. While completing his master's degree, Schoh was a graduate assistant for the Provost, focusing on the NCAA Self Study and Certification process that recently had been introduced. He also worked for three years with the Iowa State Hockey team, and his accomplishments with Cyclone Hockey were recognized in the summer of 2005 when he was inducted into the Cyclone Hockey Hall of Fame. Schoh and his wife, Stephanie, have three children, Paige (16), Eric (12) and Tyler (10). |
