Jim Herlihy is in his fourth year as the Director of Athletics at the University of Montevallo. He was hired as the eighth full-time athletics director at UM in December of 2007.

Herlihy has an extensive background in college and professional sports administration. He joined Montevallo after spending 3 ½ years at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he served as Assistant Athletics Director for a program that transitioned its membership into Division II, sending 10 of its 11 teams into NCAA DII tournaments in their second year of eligibility, before transitioning into Division I membership. During his stint at FGCU, he was responsible for external relations, sports information, business operations and had sport supervision for four sports.

He also spent 12 years in professional baseball in progressively responsible positions with the Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers. He served three years as the Director of Operations for the Rangers Spring Training Complex and Minor League Business Operations in Port Charlotte, Fla., served three years as the General Manager of the Phillies Spring Training facility in Clearwater, Fla. and served as the general manager of two minor league franchises.

He has also served as the Sports Information Director at Bates College and as a Sports Information Assistant at Plymouth State.

A native of Newfields, New Hampshire, Herlihy earned a bachelor's degree from Plymouth State University and a master's degree in sports management from the University of Alabama. He also completed the Sports Management Institute's executive education program sponsored by the University of Notre Dame and the University of Georgia.

An active committee member within the Peach Belt Conference and NCAA, he is also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and serves as a Board Member for the Division II Athletics Directors Association.
