Bruce McCutcheon is in his eighthyear as director of athletics at Lafayette. McCutcheon had spent the previous eight years as Lafayette's associate director of athletics following two years as the assistant director of athletics, where he was responsible for the general administration of the athletics department. Prior to being named director, McCutcheon spent 16 years at Lafayette where he was responsible for the general administration of the athletics department while also serving as its NCAA compliance officer. Early in his tenure as director, McCutcheon spearheaded the creation of an athletics facilities master plan. Recent upgrades as a result of that endeavor include the $23 million renovation of Fisher Stadium, the construction of the Class of '78 Stadium for baseball, renovation of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium for soccer and the softball field and Maroon Club Strength Center renovation projects. Additionally, the track and field program has been relocated to Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex where a new track will open for competition in 2008. McCutcheon has also upgraded the department by creating full-time positions in several sports, including volleyball, men's and women's soccer, as well as strength and conditioning, athletics training and athletics equipment services. Prior to coming to Lafayette, McCutcheon spent one year as an assistant director of athletics at Temple. That followed a five-year tenure as an assistant athletics director at Southern Illinois. An experienced administrator, McCutcheon also serves on the Patriot League's Committee on Athletics Administration. He recently completed a four-year term on the NCAA Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet, was chairman of the ECAC Division I Robbins Scholar-Athlete Committee and was Tournament Director of the 2000 Patriot League Basketball Tournament. He holds memberships in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. McCutcheon graduated from William & Mary in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He was a two-sport athlete at William & Mary, competing in football and track. He later earned a master's degree in sports administration in 1982 and completed his doctorate in sport management in 1988 from Ohio State. A native of Media, Pa., McCutcheon and his wife, Pat, reside on College Hill with their three children, Ian, Meghan and Gavin. Ian is asenior at Lafayette and a member of the baseball team. |
