Fredina Ingold, Penn State University Altoona, Central Region

Fredina Ingold has witnessed and experienced the growth of women's athletics from the court to the sideline to the administration ranks, serving as a pioneer for women's athletics over the course of her distinguished career. Over her 30-year tenure at Penn State Altoona, Ingold has played a monumental role in the growth and development of the athletics program. In 1986, she was appointed director of athletics. Under Ingold's direction, the 15-team athletics program has experienced unparalleled change - reinstituting an eliminated department and transitioning it from the junior college ranks to NCAA Division III membership. During her career, the total number of sports offered has expanded, there have been improvements to and construction of athletics facilities and the program has grown in stature as a member of the NCAA, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Ingold's commitment to the University was recently reinforced with the creation of the "Fredina M. Ingold Intercollegiate Athletics Enhancement Endowment." The endowment, the first of its kind at the institution, will provide discretionary funds that are crucial to moving intercollegiate athletics forward in new and innovative ways--ways that will enhance the extracurricular experience for student-athletes, satisfy the expectations of a cutting edge coaching staff, and provide attractive entertainment options for alumni and fans in the community.
