Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund
May 3, 2006 In the April issue of Athletics Administration, NACDA announced a plan to assist the hourly employees of NACDA's headquarters hotels - the New Orleans Marriott and Sheraton New Orleans - who suffered from Hurricane Katrina. We have investigated and found an appropriate Relief Fund. Although many of you have already contributed in some way to other charitable organizations, the New Orleans Tourism Workers Relief Fund specifically targets those individuals who work in the hospitality industry that have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Specifically, we are working with the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau (NOMCVB) and they have agreed to channel 100 percent of the funds that are received from the NACDA membership to the various "back of the house" workers at the Sheraton New Orleans and New Orleans Marriott hotels. These individuals include housekeepers, dishwashers, laundry attendants and room service attendants; basically, those employees who are involved with the day to day operation of the hotel, but are never really recognized.
In order to contribute to this worthy cause, please make your check payable to: c/o New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau 2020 St. Charles Avenue New Orleans, LA 70130 (Please indicate "NACDA Member" in the memo section of your check) Please note, this is a 501c3 charitable organization and any contribution made to this fund will be tax deductible. You will receive a confirmation letter directly from the NOMCVB, along with a receipt that verifies your contribution.
Needless to say, we are extremely supportive of this Relief Fund and hope you will find this to be a worthy cause to help those in need in the New Orleans area.
