Summary
The NCAA will host the 2006 Sportsmanship Summit with the theme of "Combating Current Trends in Sportsmanship and Civility." Calvin Hill, formerly with the Dallas Cowboys, will be the keynote speaker, with the focus on "Why Should We Care about Sportsmanship?"

The Summit will consist of different educational sessions on various aspects of sportsmanship and civility in intercollegiate athletics. Ron Stratten, vice president of educational services for the NCAA will discuss the feedback on sportsmanship; the session is entitled "Building our Case." There will also be round table sessions on the three stages of an athletics event. The first round table session is entitled "Pre-Game Activities and Alcohol - Do We Have a Problem?" The second is "Game Management - Making the Game Safe and Sane for Everyone." Finally, the last round table session is entitled "Post-Game Management - Lessons from Spring."

During the summit, John Nelson from American Specialty and Lou Marciani from the University of Southern Mississippi will discuss the importance of securing your facility. The final session of the summit will be "Next Steps - Implementing Meaningful Changes," discussing the best methods to implement the changes that are needed to shape the landscape of sportsmanship at all institutions.
