CABMA is excited to announce a new member feature for the 2017-18 year. The “Get To Know Your CABMA Colleagues” bi-weekly member spotlight will highlight individuals within the CABMA membership in an effort to spark additional engagement and promote ongoing networking within the Association throughout the year. Our first spotlight features CABMA President Michael Boele:
Favorite CABMA memory?
There are so many good memories...if I had to identify a favorite, I'd say it's riding the "FUN" bus on the way to the social outings. Great group of individuals within CABMA and being able to hang out with each outside of "work" has been very rewarding and fulfilling. As employees in the College Athletics, most of us work more than 40 hours a week and to have an opportunity to get to know the back stories of our CABMA members, over the years, has been a privilege and a memory I will cherish.
Last book you read (title & author)?
The Power of Positive Leadership by Jon Gordon
That's a hard question. I don't have just one; Swordfish, FaceOff and Primal Fear are a few of my favorite movies.
Instagram or Twitter?
Instagram (I can post to Twitter and Facebook with one post on Instagram)
Most memorable sporting event attended?
The yearly trips from Orlando to Tampa, with my Dad, to watch the Chicago Bears take on the Tampa Bay Bucs. My parents divorced when I was very young and the time I had with my Dad is very memorable. He taught me the game of football and now that he has passed, I look back on these trips and a SMILE comes over me. RIP, Dad, I love you now and always :)
A closed mouth don't get fed
What is one of the greatest aspects of being involved in athletics?
Being around the student-athletes and the coaches as well as the people I've had the good fortune of meeting over the past 20 years in the industry. The longer I'm in the industry the more I enjoy sharing my story, especially with the next generation. I want to help the next generation in their journey and eventually have them prepared to sit in my seat.
Best piece of professional advice you've received?
Be true to yourself. At times this industry can be brutal, chew you up and spit you out; but if you're true to yourself, you will succeed. Also, no matter how much you dislike someone or don't get along, never burn a bridge. Take the higher road and you will be the one shining on the other end.
