Question:
Would you please take a few minutes to answer the following questions:
1. At your institution, does Athletics handle Trademark Licensing? If not, which department handles Licensing?
2. How does your institution disperse revenue from trademark royalties? What percentage does Athletics receive?
3. If you have a policy/procedure relating to Trademark Licensing, would you please e-mail it, send as a link or fax (904-620-2836) a copy to me? Thank you for your time,
-Ms. Michael D. Boele, University of North Florida
Responses:
Michael, at Purdue the trademark licensing is administered by our university office called Purdue Marketing and Communications. We use CLC as our licensing agent. The distribution of royalties (net of CLC's fee) is: 1st $200,000 to the university's general scholarship fund, the next $100,000 to Athletics, and after that it's 1/3 to gen'l. scholarship fund and 2/3 to Athletics.
By copy of this reply, I'm asking Doug Sabel if he has written policies and procedures and to send a copy to you.

GT's licensing is handled by the school's communication department. It is disbursed annually and split three ways between: Athletics, Auxiliary Services and Alumni Development.

1. At your institution, does Athletics handle Trademark Licensing? If not, which department handles Licensing? Athletics handles it with the help of the Licensing Resource Group (LRG). Additional campus entities that help are University Communications (in regards to university- non athletic marks) and campus legal
2. How does your institution disperse revenue from trademark royalties? What percentage does Athletics receive? A formula was developed... Up to 1million - 75%; 1-3 Million - 65%; 3-5 Million - 60%; Over 5 Million - 50%.
3. If you have a policy/procedure relating to Trademark Licensing, would you please e-mail it, send as a link or fax (904-620-2836) a copy to me? Our policy for licensing is done through LRG (getting licensed vendors, marks, etc). Their website is www.lrgusa.com.
