Question:

We have been notified by our University that a new Social Security Administration (SSA) regulation affecting international students became effective Oct. 13. The SSA now requires international students to provide written proof from an employer of an offer for employment when applying for a Social Security number. Since student athletes are not employed, how are others handling this for foreign athletes and collecting the non-resident alien tax?
