Darin Spease was named Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2004, after serving in the role of Assistant and Associate Athletic Director from 1998-2004. In the role, Spease is responsible for the overall administration of financial affairs within the 49ers 16-sport athletic program and oversees a $9 million dollar annual budget. In addition, he oversees the department's Business Office, Athletic Ticket Office, Office of Marketing, and is the principal administrator for men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball and golf. He serves on various campus committees, and has headed the department's annual Combined Campaign (United Way) and Arts Council Fundraising drives. Externally, he is involved in youth league coaching and epilepsy awareness initiatives.

Prior to coming to Charlotte, Spease served as an Assistant Athletic Director for Business Affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) from 1993-98. While in Birmingham, he was heavily involved in the Blazers move to Division I-A football in 1996, and managed an $11 million dollar budget.


A 1989 graduate of UNC Charlotte, Spease holds a B.S. in Business Administration, as well as a MA in Education (1993), with a concentration in Athletic Administration, from UAB. A native of Winston-Salem, NC, Spease and his wife, Kathy, have three children, (Mason, Morgan and Kasey).
