ABOUT THE FEMALE MENTORING PROGRAM
The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) are continuing to partner in the Female Mentoring program, with the goal to help retain quality women in the collegiate athletics industry.  This program is designed to assist female members of NACMA and NACDA in the athletics administration field by matching them with a veteran female administrator who will provide guidance and serve as a resource for ideas.

All female administrators are encouraged to register for the program as either a mentor, mentee, or both. We all know the struggles of balancing life while continuing to excel in this industry, and by spending a little time with a mentor or mentee, you could make a huge impact on someone else's career simply by sharing your knowledge and experiences. In addition, the Female Mentoring Program will provide you an opportunity to increase your network, and share ideas while serving as an additional resource.

The Female Mentoring Program is a year-long partnership beginning in January 2012 and running through the end of the calendar year.  It is the responsibility of the Mentor to initiate contact. During the first discussion, the mentor and mentee will determine the dates/times for all remaining meetings. Mentors and Mentees will be encouraged to communicate at least once a quarter. Each discussion should last roughly an hour. After the initial contact, it is the Mentees responsibility to initiate contact moving forward. Additionally, during the Convention in Dallas, TX in June, NACMA will be hosting a Mentor/Mentee social so the connection between mentor and mentee can be more than a detached voice and bio.

The pairings will be determined and communicated to all participants in early January. In addition to the name of the individual you have been paired with, you will receive their responses to the icebreaker questionnaire that all participants have been asked to complete. During the first meeting, the goals of the mentee should be discussed, as well as the areas that they wish to improve on to continue down a successful career path.

TESTIMONIALS
"Being involved in the mentorship program is a great way to give back to the profession and has been a wonderful opportunity to network with colleagues around the country. My goal is to provide guidance and support for mentees as they pursue career development and advancement and I have benefitted as well from their insights and advice. I have really enjoyed the connections that I have made through this program and it has been well worth the time invested."
~ Regina Sullivan, Senior Associate Athletic Director - University of Minnesota

"The female mentoring program is critical in retaining and encouraging young women to further their careers, as we continue to make strides in college athletics.  I look forward to this program every year, both as a mentee and a mentor, as it is both rewarding and inspiring."
~ Corrie Sears, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing - Virginia Commonwealth University

"While I was at Northwestern University, I was part of the Female Mentoring Program as a mentor and a mentee, which was a unique experience that allowed me to grow professionally while also providing me with more insight to pass along to the women looking to me for guidance. I enjoy the program because each woman has the opportunity to turn this experience into whatever they want it to be. During the process, you learn the best way to communicate for each relationship so you can reach out to each other at any time. In my first year I was matched up with Joni Smoller at K-State, who I found out loves e-mail as much as I do. We became fast friends and continue to build on that relationship to this day. It has been awesome to see how much she has accomplished and how much she has inspired me to chase my dreams too."
~Tracie Hitz, Chief Marketing Officer - Old Hat Creative

"Having the opportunity to mentor women through this program has been a rewarding experience. I am able to provide some guidance and in return build relationships."
~ Mary Pink, Associate Athletics Director for Marketing - Iowa State University
