NACDA Promotes Collegiate Commemoration of the Anniversary of 9-11 Dallas, Texas - At the annual Convention of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in Dallas, Texas, the Officers and Executive Committee members approved a resolution by the Association urging its members to sponsor a commemoration of 9-11. The events are to take place on individual campuses at either games or practices on September 11. Each school will offer a moment of silence at the beginning of the game or practice. Other activities surrounding the commemoration will be determined by the individual schools. The 9-11 initiative was led by NACDA First Vice President Judy Rose, director of athletics at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte; NACDA Secretary Tim Gleason, commissioner of the Ohio Athletic Conference; and NACDA Past Presidents Barbara Hedges, director of athletics at the University of Washington; and Gene Smith, director of athletics at Arizona State University. NACDA, which is now in its 37th year, is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics directors, associates, assistants and conference administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
