Nomination Deadline Approaching For The NACDA/Continental Airlines AD Of The Year Awards

CLEVELAND -- NACDA's second annual NACDA/Continental Airlines AD of the Year Awards program is underway. Earlier this year, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) mailed nomination forms and criteria to every NACDA-member athletics director, institutional president and conference commissioner.

This awards program acknowledges administrative excellence within a campus and/or college community environment for NACDA member ADs. The program consists of recognition for athletics directors in NCAA Division I-A, I-AA/I-AAA, II, III, NAIA/Other Four-Year Institutions and Junior/Community Colleges. Six athletics directors will be honored in each of the above divisions in one of four regions of membership - Northeast, Southeast, Central and West. Additionally, one cross-divisional winner will also be recognized in the International Region.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, February 18. All nominations must be in the NACDA office (not postmarked) by that date. Nomination forms must be submitted by athletics directors, presidents or conference commissioners. Each individual may nominate one person per division, for a total of six nominees. Forms may be mailed (PO Box 16428, Cleveland, OH 44116), shipped overnight (24651 Detroit Rd., Westlake, OH 44145, 440/892-4000) or faxed (440/892-4007). However, only submit the nominations one time.

All NACDA-member directors of athletics who have been ADs for a minimum of five academic years, and are at institutions that are not or have not been on probation or cited for a lack of institutional control at his/her current or previous institution in the last five years, are eligible for the award. Other key qualities are demonstration of continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence; a commitment to higher education and student-athletes; a commitment to continuing education for the athletics administrative staff; and leadership on regional and national levels. Winners of the inaugural awards are not eligible as athletics directors can only win once in three years.

The 25 winners will receive their awards at NACDA's 35th annual Convention, June 11-14 at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida. The presentation will occur at the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon on Monday, June 12.

Questions on the program or requests for additional nomination forms may be directed to Jude Killy (jkilly@nacda.com) in the NACDA office at 440/892-4000.
