Nominations Due For The Sears' Directors' Cup Postgraduate Awards
CLEVELAND -- The Sears Directors' Cup Postgraduate Scholarships Award Program is underway. In October, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) mailed nomination forms and criteria to every NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA NACDA-member athletics director.
These awards are for students who have served as a part of the athletics department support staff in the categories of (1) academic support, (2) band members, (3) cheerleaders, (4) equipment room managers, (5) facility staff (specific to athletics), (6) sports information assistants, (7) team managers, (8) trainers and (9) others (i.e., student assistant coaches).
All athletics directors, assistant athletics directors, academic coordinators, sports information directors, coaches and program supervisors should be aware that the deadline for nominating their students is Friday, January 28.
All nominations must be in the NACDA office (not postmarked) by that date. Nominations may be mailed, shipped overnight or faxed. However, only submit the nominations one time.
To be nominated, a student is required to be a full-time senior at some point during the 1999-2000 year, have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, have played an active role in one of the athletics support categories already mentioned and be planning to pursue a postgraduate course of study within five years of receipt of the award.
Five winners from each classification, four at-large and one from each institution which wins the Sears Directors? Cup, will receive a $5,000 grant to be used towards postgraduate studies, a total of $100,000 in scholarships, funded by Sears. The winners will receive their awards at NACDA's 35th annual Convention, June 11-14 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. The Scholar-Athlete Awards Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, June 13.
Nomination forms may be completed by any member of the athletics department, but must be signed by the athletics director and the nominated student.
Questions on the program or requests for additional nomination forms may be directed to Laurie Garrison (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Brian Horning (email@example.com) in the NACDA office at 440/892-4000. The nomination forms should be mailed to: PO Box 16428, Cleveland, Ohio 44116; sent in overnight mail to: 24651 Detroit Road, Westlake, Ohio 44145; or faxed to: 440/892-4007.
