Nomination Deadline Approaching for NACDA's Athletics Director of the Year Awards

Cleveland, Ohio -- NACDA's inaugural Athletics Director of the Year Awards program is underway. In November, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) mailed nomination forms and criteria to every NACDA-member athletics director, president and conference commissioner.

This awards program was initiated to acknowledge administrative excellence within a campus and/or college community environment for NACDA member ADs in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The program consists of recognition for athletics directors on both regional and national levels in NCAA Division I-A, I-AA/ I-AAA, II, III, NAIA/Other Four-Year Institutions and Junior/Community Colleges. Six athletics directors are first honored in each of the above divisions in one of four regions of membership - Northeast, Southeast, Central and West. Of these 24 athletics directors, one is then selected from each division (a total of six) as the NACDA Athletics Director of the Year.

All athletics directors, presidents and conference commissioners should be aware that the deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, February 22. All nominations must be in the NACDA office (not postmarked) by that date. Nominations may be mailed, shipped overnight or faxed. However, only submit the nominations one time.

All NACDA-member directors of athletics who have been ADs for a minimum of five academic years, and are at institutions that are not or have not been on probation or cited for a lack of institutional control in the last five years, are eligible for the award. Other key qualities which will be considered are demonstration of continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence; a commitment to higher education and student-athletes; a commitment to continuing education for the athletics administrative staff; and leadership on regional and national levels.

The winners will receive their awards at NACDA's 34th annual Convention, June 13-16 at the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon on Monday, June 14.

Nomination forms must be submitted by athletics directors, presidents or conference commissioners. The individual submitting the nomination and the nominated athletics director must sign the nomination forms. Other members of the athletics department are not eligible to submit nominations.

Questions on the program or requests for additional nomination forms may be directed to Jude Killy (jkilly@nacda.com) in the NACDA office at 440/892-4000. The nomination forms should be mailed to: PO Box 16428, Cleveland, Ohio 44116; sent in overnight mail to: 24651 Detroit Road, Westlake, Ohio 44145; or faxed to: 440/892-4007.
