Division II ADA Membership
Purpose Membership in the Division II Athletics Directors Association assists and supports an organization that represents and promotes the interests of Division II athletics directors. The purpose of this organization is to empower its membership in their roles as athletics directors.
During the 2009-2010 academic year the Division II Athletics Directors Association served the second largest number of members to date. The membership total of 200 was the second largest in our organizational history and represented 70%+ of Division II institutions.
Objectives
- Provide a collective voice for Division II athletics directors on all issues including those related to legislation and governance.
- Provide a forum to discuss issues that impact the role of Division II athletics directors.
- Provide a recognized relationship with other athletics director associations and NCAA leadership groups.
- Provide helpful information to the Division II athletics directors including surveys, newsletters and meetings.
Membership Benefits
- Belong to a professional organization created by and for athletics directors in Division II.
- Utilize a professional organization for the exchange of current practices and discussion of evolving trends in Division II intercollegiate athletics.
- Receive a complimentary copy of NACDA's magazine Athletics Administration, which contains the "DII ADA Corner", highlighting current Division II intercollegiate athletics management applications.
- Receive the NACDA Daily Review, a web clipping service that contains articles on intercollegiate athletics from newspaper web sites across the country. The Daily Review arrives via e-mail five days a week.
- Reduced registration rates for the annual NACDA Convention.
- Receive an Electronic newsletter distributed to all members on a quarterly basis.
- Opportunity to nominate student-athletes for the Association's Academic Achievement Awards Program sponsored by WeatherPORT.
- Opportunity to obtain a financial grant to assist in attending the NACDA Convention.
- Receive copies of any research results distributed by the Association (i.e. 2009-10 Department-wide Salary Survey).

Spring 2007 o Borden Perlman grant winners were selected to attend the 2007 NACDA Convention o 22-$500 Conference stipend grants were awarded to DII ADA members from their respective conference to attend the NACDA Convention NACDA Convention 2007 o Facilitated three DII specific sessions for the membership o Honored 2006-07 winter/spring Division II national championship institutions
August 2007, Board of Director's planning retreat o Set 2007-08 agenda for the organization o Created Board responsibility document o Finalized Academic Achievement Awards criteria o Drafted award criteria for DII ADA Lifetime Achievement Award
Fall 2007 o Provided all DII ADA members with a complimentary CD of the Model DII Athletics Department Best Practices Phase One
NCAA Convention 2008 o Division II specific session unveiling the Model Division II Athletics Department Best Practices, Phase Two o Honored 2007 fall Division II national championship institutions
Spring 2008 o Provided 6 DII athletics directors with the Borden Perlman Insurance Professional Development Grant o Provided 17 of the 22 DII athletics conferences with a $500 stipend designed to initiate conference sportsmanship programs o 22-$500 Conference stipend grants were awarded to DII ADA members from their respective conference to attend the NACDA Convention
May 2008 o Announced the signing of WeatherPORT as a major sponsor for the DII ADA
June 2008 o Announced the formation of the WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Awards
NACDA Convention 2008 o Facilitated three Division II specific sessions for the membership o Hosted two receptions for the membership o Honored 2007-08 winter/spring Division II national championship institutions
August 2008, Board of Director's Planning Retreat o Set 2008-09 agenda for the organization o Finalized award criteria for DII ADA Lifetime Achievement Award o Reworked Model Division II Athletics Department document to align with the NCAA Division II Strategic Positioning Platform. Submitted to NCAA Management Council and President's Council for review.
August 2008 o First WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Awards were distributed to 2188 student-athletes
October 2008 o Annual Meeting in Indianapolis between the DII ADA Officers and NCAA Division II Chief of Staff Mike Racy o Polo shirts, Sponsored by WeatherPORT, mailed to each DII ADA Board of Director to distribute within their conference to those athletics directors that have paid their dues
January 2009 o Reception, Sponsored by WeatherPORT, to be held in conjunction with the NCAA Convention
NACDA Convention 2009 o Facilitated three Division II specific sessions for the membership o Hosted a reception for the membership o Flash drives, sponsored by WeatherPORT, given to each DII ADA Board of Director to distribute within their conference to those athletics directors that have paid their dues o Honored 2008-09 winter/spring Division II national championship institutions o Recognized Rudy Carvajal (Cal State Bakersfield) and Phil Roach (Rollins College) as the Inaugural DII ADA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients o Honored the 2009 Borden Perlman Grant Recipients
August 2009 o Second year of the WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Awards which were distributed to 4058 student-athletes at 117 institutions
August 2009, Officers Planning Retreat o Set 2009-10 agenda for the organization o Finalized plans to develop a salary survey in conjunction with NACDA Consulting to be released in the fall of 2009 to Division II institutions o Continued development of a strategic plan in conjunction with NACDA Consulting and will be presenting findings to the Board of Directors this fall
October 2009 o Annual Meeting in Indianapolis between the DII ADA Officers, select DII Commissioners and NCAA Division II Chief of Staff Mike Racy
January 2010 o Reception with attendance of over 100 Division II Athletics Directors, Sponsored by WeatherPORT, held in conjunction with the NCAA Convention o Completed Department-wide Salary Survey and distributed to all DII ADA Members
NACDA Convention 2010 o Facilitated three Division II specific sessions for the membership o Hosted a reception for the membership o Water bottles, sponsored by WeatherPORT, given to each DII ADA Board of Director to distribute within their conference to those athletics directors that have paid their dues o Honored 2009-10 winter/spring Division II national championship institutions o Recognized Bud Elwell (Gannon) as the 2010 DII ADA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient o Honored the 2010 Borden Perlman Grant Recipients
August 2010 o Third year of the WeatherPORT Academic Achievement Awards which were distributed to 3028 student-athletes at 92 institutions
August 2010, Officers Planning Retreat o Set 2010-11 agenda for the organization o Completed a strategic plan in conjunction with NACDA Consulting and will be implementing several of these findings in 2010-11
