Please note all nomination forms must be received in the NACDA office (not postmarked) by Friday, April 26, 2013.
NACDA is pleased to offer, through the John McLendon Memorial Minority Scholarship Foundation, five (5) $10,000 postgraduate scholarships, to minority nominees who are planning to pursue a graduate degree in athletics administration. There are two options available - (1) for nominees who have graduated and have a minimum of two years experience in an athletics administration position; and (2) for nominees who are current full-time seniors.
Please feel free to duplicate the form, if necessary, for more than one nomination. The awards are in addition to any other awards or scholarships the student may have already received.
Nomination Criteria
To be considered for a John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship, a nominee must:
| 1. Meet the federal guidelines for definition as a minority. These are as follows: |

| a. |
Black (Not of Hispanic origin) -- All persons having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa. |
| b. |
Hispanic -- All persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture of origin, regardless of race. |
| c. |
Asian or Pacific Islander -- All persons having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent or the Pacific Islands. This area includes, for example, China, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippine Islands and Samoa. |
| d. |
American Indian or Alaskan Native -- All persons having origins in any of the original peoples of North America, and who maintain cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition. |

| 2. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 (based on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent in the undergraduate curriculum. Nominees whose GPA is less than 3.2 will not be considered. In addition, if you feel the nominee has pursued a course of study that is unique, or if there are other mitigating factors, please inform the selection committee of such cases and those circumstances may be considered as well. |

3. Be planning to pursue a postgraduate course of study in athletics administration within five years of receipt of the award.

4. Have demonstrated leadership qualities on a college/university or community level.
|
|
|
5. Nominees who are not of the listed origins, but have married someone of the listed origins, are not eligible.

Option 1
Nominees who have graduated and have a minimum of two years experience in an athletics administration position
or
Option 2
Nominees who are current full-time seniors and plan to pursue a graduate degree in athletics administration.
Any member of a NACDA-member institution may complete (type) the nomination form. In addition to the nomination form, the nominee MUST write a 500 word personal essay. The name and phone number of the person completing the nomination must be indicated on the form.
All nominations MUST be signed by the nominee's academic advisor. If currently working in the field of athletics administration, nomination form must be signed by a supervisor. Nominations must also be signed by the nominee so we may use pertinent information in publicity materials.
Nominations must be in the NACDA office by Friday, April 26, 2013. Forms may be mailed to Katie Newman (24651 Detroit Rd., Westlake, OH 44145), faxed (440-892-4007) or sent via email (knewman@nacda.com), however, only submit the nomination form by one method.
