Cleveland, Ohio -- Lee Reed, director of athletics at Cleveland State University (CSU), has been named chair of the John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Awards Committee. He replaces Lee McElroy, director of athletics at the University at Albany, who completed a four-year term as chair following the conclusion of NACDA's Convention in June.

The John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship program presents five $10,000 scholarships to minority students who intend to pursue a graduate degree in athletics administration. Students are required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, have senior status and have demonstrated leadership qualities on an institutional or community level.

"I am very honored to be chosen to head the John McLendon Scholarship Committee," says Reed. "It means a great deal to me to be able to represent Cleveland State University on a committee that is responsible for so many great things."

The John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Committee is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program. This includes reviewing the nominations and submitting votes to determine the winners.

Reed was selected as CSU's director of athletics in July 2002. He had previously served for seven years in the athletics department at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), rising to the position of associate athletics director for internal affairs in January 1998. Reed was NACDA's 59th intern and served in the national office in 1994-95.

NACDA, which is now in its 39th year, is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics directors, associates, assistants and conference administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Through its series of management seminars, clinics and workshops and publication of the bi-monthly magazine Athletics Administration, NACDA offers educational opportunities to its members. Close to 2,000 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention.
