Division 2 ADA Membership

Purpose

Membership in the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association assists and supports an organization that represents and promotes the interests of Division 2 athletics directors. The purpose of this organization is to empower its membership in their roles as athletics directors.

During the 2016-17 academic year the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association served the largest number of members to date.  The membership total of 235 represented over 75% of Division II institutions.

Objectives

  • Provide a collective voice for Division 2 athletics directors on all issues including those related to legislation and governance.
  • Provide a forum to discuss issues that impact the role of Division 2 athletics directors.
  • Provide a recognized relationship with other athletics director associations and NCAA leadership groups.
  • Provide helpful information to the Division 2 athletics directors including surveys, newsletters and meetings.

Membership Benefits                                                             

  • Belong to a professional organization created by and for athletics directors in Division 2.
  • Utilize a professional organization for the exchange of current practices and discussion of evolving trends in Division 2 intercollegiate athletics.
  • Receive a complimentary copy of NACDA's magazine Athletics Administration, which contains the "D2 ADA Corner", highlighting current Division 2 intercollegiate athletics management applications.
  • Receive the NACDA Daily Review, a web clipping service that contains articles on intercollegiate athletics from newspaper web sites across the country. The Daily Review arrives via e-mail five days a week.
  • Reduced registration rates for the annual NACDA Convention.
  • Opportunity to nominate individuals for the D2 ADA Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Opportunity to nominate student-athletes for the Association’s Academic Achievement Awards Program.
  • Opportunity to obtain a financial grant to assist in attending the NACDA Convention.
  • Receive copies of any research results distributed by the Association.
  • Opportunity to participate in the D2 ADA Mentoring Program as a nominee for mentees or to serve as a mentor.

D2 ADA Accomplishments

  • NCAA Convention 2016
    • Furthered national credibility of D2 ADA: representatives from NCAA, Championships Committee, Management Council and NAAC all attended the D2 ADA Board of Directors Meeting
    • Held D2 ADA Annual Reception, which had attendance exceeding 150 D2 constituents
  • January 2016
    • Planned meaningful Division 2 programming for the 2016 NACDA Convention
  •  March 2016
    • Selected five Borden Perlman Professional Development Grant winners to attend Convention for the first time; thirteenth year in a row of this grant
    • Used the grant money provided by the NCAA to select a Conference Stipend winner from each conference to attend the NACDA Convention
    • NACDA provided sixteen Division 2 athletics directors with a $1,000 stipend to attend the NACDA Convention in June
  • April 2016
    • Received confirmation from the NCAA that the Association would be provided $86,500 annually for the next five years to advance multiple Division 2 ADA Initiatives, including:  D2 ADA Mentoring Program, D2 New AD Orientation Program and a new initiative for veteran AD’s.
  • NACDA Convention 2016
    • Facilitated eight Division 2 specific sessions for the membership
    • Hosted a reception for the membership
    • Honored 2015-16 winter/spring Division 2 national championship institutions
    • Recognized Mary Gardner (Bloomsburg) as the 2016 D2 ADA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
    • Honored the 2016 Borden Perlman Grant Recipients
    • Obtained a membership of 250 for the D2 ADA for 2015-16
  • August 2016
    • Ninth year of the Division 2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards which were distributed to a record 9072 student-athletes at 156 institutions
  • August 2016, Officers planning retreat
    • Set 2016-17 agenda for the organization
  • NCAA Convention 2017
    • Furthered national credibility of D2 ADA: representatives from NCAA, Championships Committee and Management Council all attended the D2 ADA Board of Directors Meeting
    • Held a joint meeting with the D2 CCA in order to build communication bridges with the Division 2 conference commissioners
    • Held D2 ADA Annual Reception, which had attendance exceeding 150 D2 constituents
  • January 2017
    • Select Division 2 athletics directors planned meaningful Division 2 programming for the 2017 NACDA Convention
  •  March 2017
    • Selected four Borden Perlman Professional Development Grant winners to attend Convention for the first time; fourteenth year in a row of this grant
    • Used the grant money provided by the NCAA to select a Conference Stipend winner from each conference to attend the NACDA Convention
    • Used Foundation for the Future resources to help fund D2 ADA Mentoring Program mentors and new Division 2 AD’s to attend the NACDA Convention
    • NACDA also provided twelve Division 2 athletics directors with a $1,000 stipend to attend the NACDA Convention in June
