The Coca-Cola Company has teamed with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) to recognize community service in intercollegiate athletics in NCAAź, NAIATM and Junior/Community College member institutions.
The Coca-Cola Community All-Americans program is designed to help colleges and universities recognize, celebrate and applaud student-athletes who are making a difference in their communities.
KEY BENEFITS FOR INSTITUTIONS
In addition to celebrating your student-athletes' commitment to community service, the Coca-Cola Community
All-Americans program offers other key benefits for institutions:
An annual, integrated hands-on program that provides well-deserved recognition for the many student-athletes
and institutions who have demonstrated a history of supporting community service
The opportunity for institutions to enhance existing community relationships
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS ON YOUR CAMPUS
On an annual basis, athletics administrators from NCAAź, NAIATM, and Junior/Community College member
institutions are encouraged to nominate student-athletes who excel in community service. Athletics directors (and their staff)
determine how the nominations
will be gathered and reviewed. Then, athletics directors (or their designated program managers) review their institution's
submissions and select one student-athlete as their campus Coca-Cola Community All-American. Each Coca-Cola Community
All-American is recognized at his or her institution and in the local campus community (as well as in the student-athlete's
hometown community) through institutional announcements and local media developed by the institution. Awareness tools such as
posters, ads and certificates have already been created for you and can be customized to help make recognizing student-athletes
easy. Go to Campus Recognition on this web site to download awareness tools.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS NATIONALLY
Each institution nominates one campus Coca-Cola Community All-American for consideration in the national recognition program. The athletics director (or their designated program administrator) completes the national nomination form and submits it to NACDA for review. THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING NATIONAL NOMINATIONS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2007.
From the pool of nationally nominated student-athletes, a panel of NACDA representatives selects one
student-athlete from NCAA Division I-A, Division I-AA, Division I-AAA, Division II, Division III, NAIA,
and Junior/Community College member institutions who has a compelling community service story to tell.
The NACDA panel will evaluate student-athletes based on the significance of each student-athlete's
community service efforts including:
- Impact of volunteer efforts
- Level of involvement
- Number of community service hours / activities
After the selection process, NACDA will notify institutions of the award recipients. Each of the selected student-athletes will then be asked to write an essay sharing their community service experience.
ALL-AMERICANS CELEBRATED
The final Coca-Cola Community All-Americans (seven in total: NCAA Division I-A, Division I-AA, Division
I-AAA, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior/Community College member institutions) will receive
recognition and celebration in the national media, and at the annual NACDA Convention.
Also, recognition tools such as posters, ads, certificates and press releases have already been created for you and can be customized to help make celebrating a winner on your campus easy. Go to Campus Recognition on this website to download awareness tools.
Just as exciting, each Coca-Cola Community All-American will receive an award and The Coca-Cola Company will make a $5,000 donation in their name to the community/philanthropic cause of their choice.
